Henderson Turbines Not a Dead Issue Yet

For anyone who believes that the threat of wind turbines scattered

across Henderson is over you could not be more wrong. The Galloo Island=

wind turbine project is slated to start construction summer of 2010 and

is well in the permitting process. Although Galloo Island is positioned

closer to the town of Henderson it is part of the town of Hounsfield.

The town of Hounsfield has been promised big money in the form of PILOT.

They will also decide the fate of the 84 proposed turbines placed on

Galloo Island by Upstate NY Power Corp.

Through studies by professionals it has been verified that this project

will decrease market values of homes within view shed of the turbines,

and destroy the home of many different species on and around Galloo

Island.  The project will also have a large transmission line that will

intersect Henderson. The proposed route for this line will make land

fall near the marsh on Hovey Tract and head south for approximately 40

miles through the towns of Henderson, Belleville and Ellisburg to name a

few before reaching its final destination in Oswego County. The utility

pole and substations are designed to carry 3 to 4 times the amount of

electricity than what is required of the Galloo Island project. This is

nothing more than an invitation to any wind company backed by federal

taxpayers money to target any one of these towns considering half

their work will be done for them. Basically we will all be sitting

ducks.

There is a map of the proposed transmission site for the town of

Henderson in the Henderson library. You may want to check it out as

transmission line hosts and neighbors have not all been notified of the

proposed placement. Do any of us have control over our own destiny where

this project is concerned when another town is calling the shots?

Henderson will be getting the construction site, transmission lines,

destruction of a beautiful view, decreased market values, among other

things and NO MONEY. There will be a meeting held by the Public Service

Commission on Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at the community building regarding

this issue and another to follow that night at BHCS School at 6p.m. for

anyone to attend with questions or concerns. Join the Heart of Henderson
